Why it exists
Most app cost calculators are run by development agencies, and most hide their answer behind a contact form. The ones that show a number rarely say what hourly rate they used or where it came from. This site does the opposite: it shows the estimate straight away, prints the source and read date of every rate under the result, and publishes every hour assumption on the methodology page.
Who writes it
Written and checked by Oliver Wakefield-Smith, founder of Digital Signet, which publishes independent cost and pricing reference sites. Every figure was read from its source on the date shown beside it.
Independence
- We do not build apps or sell development services.
- We take no referral fees, commissions or payments from agencies, outsourcing firms, freelancer marketplaces or app builders.
- There are no ads, affiliate links or sponsored placements on this site.
- We are not affiliated with Apple, Google, Clutch, Accelerance or the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. We quote their published figures.
How the figures are kept current
Each rate source publishes on its own schedule: BLS wage estimates once a year, BLS employer cost data quarterly, Clutch's pricing guides as reviews accumulate, Accelerance yearly. When a source updates, we re-read it, update the figure and its read date, and record the change in the methodology change log.
Corrections
If a figure is wrong or out of date, email hello@digitalsignet.com with the page and the source you are relying on. Confirmed corrections are applied and noted in the change log rather than made silently.
